Creation of translation memory — TM

While translating text with the use of CAT-tools (Transit, Trados and others), the unique possibility arises whereby a Translation Memory may be simultaneously created with the translation. Certain expressions, sentences and sometimes entire paragraphs, once translated, need never be translated again. Thus, by using the most modern techniques, we can compile a Translation Memory for your projects that can be used in future work. This is an essential step in reducing the translation time needed for new documents as it helps to ensure the uniformity of stylistic forms and terminological expressions, simultaneously increasing quality and decreasing costs.

Alignment

As the result of any translation project a large quantity of material is generated which is nearly impossible to use efficiently in the form in which it exists. This is primarily due to the wide variety of formats in which this material exists (printed documents, PDFs, MS Office documents, desktop-design files) and the absence of any unifying system. Clients are thus unable to make maximum use of existing resources. The active use of translation archives on future projects is now made possible by the preparation of a Translation Memory on the basis of previously translated materials. The process of creating a TM will, in this case, be called Alignment and includes both justification and verification. The Alignment consists of the comparison of original fragments with corresponding translated fragments, verification of the conformity of input and output fragments and, if necessary, verification of translated fragments. Subsequently the process of pre-translation (the placing of previously translated lines, sentences, and paragraphs) eliminates the need to spend valuable time on re-processing previously translated texts and from paying several times for the same work, while obtaining a stylistically matched solution.
