BENEVOX took part in The Northern Dimension Forum in St. Petersburg
The First International Northern Dimension Forum was held on May 13-14, 2008 in Park Inn Pribaltiyskay, St. Petersburg. BENEVOX translation company supported the event as a linguistic partner.
The Forum became the first significant event in Russia that was aimed at creation of a platform for discussing practical content of the Northern Dimension policy, launched by the EU in 1997. The status of the Northern Dimension has changed in 2006 with the framework document, which declared "the joint achievement of the partners..., the common project and the common responsibility". The document was approved by Russia, the EU, Norway and Iceland and gave additional incentive Northern Dimension policy.
The program of the Northern Dimension Forum was diverse and profound. The organizer of the event, North-West Development and Investment Promotion Agency, worked out the subjects of the conference's sessions efficiently. The Forum targeted decision-makers from partner countries, structures of the European Union and regional organizations, representatives of regional administrations, international financial institutions, enterprises and organizations, investment projects applicants, academia and cultural community. According to the registered data the two-day event gathered more than 180 delegates from 12 countries.
Within the framework of the Northern Dimension Forum also was held an International Conference "Northern Dimension: Transport. Logistics. Investments". The overcrowded halls once again showed that partnership in this sphere is perspective and has a special importance for North-Western Federal District.
The Northern Dimension Forum became the second joint project of BENEVOX and North-West Development and Investment Promotion Agency. BENEVOX's simultaneous interpreters have a wide experience in the area and have worked at conferences of such scale for more than 10 years. Here is the brief list of the events assisted by the interpreters: St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, International Banking Congress, International Ecological Forum Baltic Sea Day, conferences from The International Centre for Social and Economic Research (Leontief Centre), events by Saint Petersburg International Business Association for North-Western Russia (SPIBA).
Members of presidium of the Northern Dimension Forum estimated the interpreters' contribution as very high. This fact of course can be considered as the best guarantee of quality of services.
Vladimir Antchak, head of the Events Department of North-West Development and Investment Promotion Agency, commented the Forum in the following way: "Of course, the first project realization requires a high responsibility and is associated with a lot of risks. Though we hope that Forum will have its practical value. Firstly it will help to develop the cooperation between the countries-participants of Northern Dimension. And secondly it will promote the efficient performance of specific mechanisms based on principles of public-private partnerships in such a significant sphere for region as transport and logistics".
BENEVOX expresses our thanks to simultaneous interpreters Natalia Rodionova, Maya Ryasentseva, Nadezhda Okhareva and Tatyana Vasilieva. Looking forward to future cooperation.
North-West Development and Investment Promotion Agency was founded in 2002 and for the moment is one of the leading organizations of the North-West of Russia in the sphere of regional policy realization, investment promotion and creating a positive image of the region in Russia and abroad.

BENEVOX puts half of Europe on its map
In March of 2008 BENEVOX has launched the translation of supporting documents in the field of marine electronics of Furuno Electric Co., which includes 8 European languages. The project coordinator on Japanese side is Mr. Yoshitoshi Hatai.
The business visit of Yoshitoshi-san to Russia within the scope of the new project is scheduled for April 17-18, 2008. This will be the second meeting of the BENEVOX management and its Japanese colleague, and his second visit to Russia. The key question of the agenda will be the audit of BENEVOX as a provider of services for compliance with the international quality standards. This visit will be dedicated to the results of the analysis of company operations and the evaluation of implementation of Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 standard.
One of the most significant criteria for the evaluation of the translation company is the absence of complaints from its clients. Both parties assume that the personal visit would present a perfect chance to discuss the criteria of Quality Management System evaluation and help further refine the BENEVOX business processes.
The working on a large multilingual project always requires high level of responsibility, management organization and ample resources. "We collaborate with companies from variety of countries and observe the different approaches to doing business in different cultures. The Japanese philosophy has already proven the advantages of the process-based approach, this is why we implement and use the best practices coming our way from the East. Kanban, kaizen, and TQM are already becoming the philosophy of all our company employees. Furuno Electric Co is precisely that client which will teach us the best that the East has to offer", - stresses Roman Magdalenko, the Director of Commerce at BENEVOX.
The history of the collaboration of BENEVOX with Furuno Electric Co and its European representative office, Furuno Eurus, totals hundreds pages worth of translated text. The positive success of BENEVOX was brought by the translation of a series of catalogues for the Japanese manufacturer. "It is a fact that the translation of a catalogue is more complex and labor-intensive process in comparison with the translation of a plain technical text with certain context and sequence", comments Olga Giniatullina, the BENEVOX editor. - The client was satisfied with our work. And the facts are stubborn things.

BENEVOX Infrastructure Being Modernized
In late December, 2007, Lanck Systems company conducted initial setup, adjustment and commissioning of a communication system on the basis of Avaya IP-office equipment in St. Petersburg office of BENEVOX.
The next stage of Avaya IP-office intstallation implies the introduction of a personalized automatic service system in BENEVOX activities.
Lanck Systems, a part of Lanck group of companies, has been operating in the field of system integration all over Russia since 1994. Lanck Systems has its head office in St. Petersburg and a representative office in Moscow. The company specializes in the field of system integration, supplies of hardware and software for industrial enterprises, state-owned and non-profit organizations.
International company BENEVOX deals with technical translation and interpreting, software localization etc. In Russia, there are BENEVOX offices in St. Petersburg and in Moscow. The replacement of equipment in St. Petersburg office was dictated by the need of BENEVOX in functional enhancement of communication and improvement of service provided to the clients. Avaya IP-office, model IP406v2, replaced the outdated analogue automatic telephone station used by BENEVOX for the last 2 years. "We are experiencing the phase of active growth, and thus the necessity to enhance our telecommunication infrastructure appeared," says Roman Magdalenko, Commercial Director of BENEVOX, "Before, we used 4 analogue lines, which did not provide for the sufficiently high level of service to our customers. We preferred Avaya to the equipment by other leading manufacturers because, from our viewpoint, it provides a wide range of services to our customers and allows for scaling these services".
Avaya IP-office is a complex communication solution designed for small organizations and enterprise branches. IP-office incorporates a full-function telephone station, a message processing platform (for both voice mail and e-mail), a switching unit, a router, a firewall, Internet access facilities, VPN support, and a business application server. The solution is designed for 100 end users and 50 contact centre staff with a possibility to extension.
According to Artyom Sosnin, head of system integration department of Lanck Systems, the initial setup was carried out as IT-outsourcing in accordance with the partnership agreement with Liniya1 operator that provided Avaya equipment. The specialists of St. Petersburg branch of Lanck Systems carried out the installation of a digital automatic telephone station and hardware adjustment in one day. The integrated Avaya IP-office complex became an important element of the IT infrastructure of BENEVOX. System configuration is designed for the maximum of 50 ports. Besides traditional telephony, Avaya IP-office provides with the possibility of integration with the existing 1C: Enterprise 7.5 database. Database transfer will be performed in January, 2008. Besides, theVoiceMail PRO/Text-To-Speech functional complex is implemented for processing the messages of individual users. Avaya IP-office equipment will be launched in full volume in January, 2008. At present, the equipment is in setup phase.
According to Roman Magdalenko, addition of supplementary options (e.g. Internet access) is not planned; such questions will be solved when the need arises. The modernization of Moscow office of Benevox is not planned in the short run, either.
At the second installation stage, the introduction of a personalized automatic service system in St. Petersburg office is planned. Due to it, regular and VIP customers will be able to communicate directly with their personal managers, bypassing the autoinformer, after the system identifies their number. The system will be set up so as to determine the current call status and to salute the client personally in his/her own language.
Along with infrastructure modernization, BENEVOX starts using the new telephone number: +7 (812) 7777 5 88.

The earthmoving equipment department of Russian office of LIEBHERR Group (Liebherr Rusland) continues to cooperate with BENEVOX, the company which offers a wide range of services in the fields of localization and technical translations.
BENEVOX has an established reputation as the supplier of high quality services and a reliable companion for the period of partnership. BENEVOX has successfully performed six projects for LIEBHERR.
Collaboration of the companies started in spring this year. As Roman Magdalenko, Director of Commerce of BENEVOX, said: ‘High manufacturing technologies, know-how and perspective decisions by LIEBHERR impress us and can be a source of new creative opportunities. Within the scale of cooperation BENEVOX ran several seminars to improve skills of staff translators and editors, involved in LIEBHERR projects, as the customer has a range of specific requirements to localization. These requirements especially apply to translation of marketing materials. For instance, according to LIEBHERR corporate standards the length of Russian text should be the same or should have just a little mismatch to the German source text. On October 8, 2007 BENEVOX, expert in the fields of development, localization and production of technical documentation, informs on commencement of the second stage of cooperation with Furuno Electric Co, one of the largest and acknowledged manufacturers of marine electronics in the world.

BENEVOX will translate for FIAT
In spring 2007, BENEVOX launched a new project covering localization of the FIAT (Italy) repair and diagnosis software for the Russian market.
BENEVOX will translate into Russian the complete technical documentation package on the full range of FIAT cars represented in the Russian market. The project will last for approximately one year, and the team of professionals highly experienced in the field of car industry including translators, proofreaders and editors will be engaged.
Lately FIAT has accelerated the business activities in the territory of Russia. Presence of the Italian brand just for 9 months in the Russian market allowed the FIAT partners to deploy the distribution network consisting of 52 car sales centers located in 38 Russian cities, and enabled FIAT to increase sales by 43% relative to 2006. In the nearest future, FIAT is going to expand the line of car models including presentation of FIAT Bravo, FIAT 500 and other innovative models.
The Russian branch of BENEVOX was one of the players in the Russian translation market that took part in the project tender. Roman Magdalenko, Commercial Director of BENEVOX explained: “There was the toughest competition for the FIAT project among translation companies, and we are happy to find ourselves in the top three. We succeeded in becoming the exclusive FIAT suppliers in Russia certainly not due to the lowest price proposal, but just because of combination of the following factors: the considerable experience in car industry (AUDI AG, Volkswagen Group Rus, BMW, etc.) plus the innovative method of quotation based on the Translation Memory technique. This method implies calculating the translation price taking into account the number of repetitions and coincidences in the text; such a technique is particularly effective when translating partly intersecting big text segments that are typical for technical literature (e.g., technical manuals issued by one manufacturer). In future, we are going to continue the partnership with FIAT that will include translation of either technical or advertising materials.”
Such projects allow the global companies to easily adapt their product to the local market and, therefore, to accelerate the promotion process. BENEVOX will successfully use this chance to get a new partner and perform localization at a high professional level.
